WELCOME/BOOZHOO!

On behalf of  Snimikobi  Algonquin People of the Mississippi River Valley... Welcome to our Website.

Snimikobi Algonquin are located in the Ardoch area of Ontario, Canada where
our  Algonquin Ancestors have lived  for thousands of years.  Our  history is rich with tradition, stories, legends,  art, crafts, songs,  being at peace with the Creator...and perhaps a darn good joke or too.

It is our hope that as you visit each page, you sense a connection to the rich heritage of the Algonquin peoples.  As Chief, It is my great priviledge to represent Snimikobi  as we grow and reconnect with both our past  and our future.

This web site is dedicated to preserving the past, living in the present and preparing the future for seven generations.

Our web site  holds  words of peace and healing, as our Ancestors would have our words and teachings be told in this manner.

If you have any comments, suggestions or need information, please contact myself  or the Editor Esther Crawford through the Contact us page.

BIRTH OF THE CLAN SYSTEMS

After the great flood, and the earth's second people came to be, Kitchi-Manitou remembered the arguments and fights which took place with the earth's first peoples.

To prevent such fighting and killing from occurring again, Kitchi-Manitou gave the Anishinabeg (plural) a form of Government called
O-do-i---daym-i-wam, or Clan system.
Each clan was given a special role in the structure and governing of the Anishinabeg.  This provided leadership and balance in all areas
There were seven original Clans:

Ah-ji-jawk' (Crane). Mahng (Loon), Gi-goon' (Fish), Mu-kwa'(Bear), Wa-bi-sha-shi' (Martin), Wa-wa-shesh'-she (Deer), and Be-nays' (Bird).

Makinak Doidaym, or Turtle Clan, is one of the many family groups which makes up the Anishinabe Clan system.
